Nigel Slater - Sausage and Potato Pie

Review: 4 stars for this one. It was very good, but it didn't blow me away.
I was impressed at how quick it was to prep (I use a mandolin to slice my potatoes and onion).
The pastry was very light and crumbly so unfortunately didn't stay in one piece when I transferred from pie dish to plate, hence my not so great photo.
For the sausage meat, I used Old English sausages as my butcher said these were the most herby ones that he had.
This recipe was originally supposed to be eaten with the silver surfers (in laws) who were coming over for tea but ended up as me and husband eating it at home and then taking the other two portions over to the hospital as my mother in law wasn't very well yesterday afternoon so their portions (with mushy peas) got tubbed up in takeaway tubs, wrapped in tin foil and then a nice big towel to keep hot and I took it over to the hospital - good job because they were really hungry by then. They really enjoyed it. Husband thought it was really tasty, me being a proper northerner however... I needed some Bisto gravy pouring on it!!! I served it with my homegrown garden peas (for me) and mushy peas for everyone else.
Aga conversion: I used the hotplates for the boiling the potatoes and frying the onions and sausage meat bits and then I transferred the pie to the roasting oven. I put it on the grid shelf on the bottom set of runners. In future I think I'll put it on the grid shelf on the floor of the roasting oven as the pastry got a little too brown. It only took 30 minutes to cook as my oven was running hot.
Will I make this again? Possibly.

Paul Hollywood - Crumpets

Review:  πŸŒŸπŸŒŸπŸŒŸπŸŒŸπŸŒŸ So, I got up early on Sunday and decided to have a go at these. They did not disappoint. I was surprised how easy they are to make, but you do need to have some crumpet rings or egg rings available to make them...and I did! I'd bought some of these Professional Egg Rings from Amazon and just took off the handles. They worked a treat. Oh how soft and tasty these crumpets are especially with some lovely Longley Farm Butter on top...πŸ’– Mmmmmmm. Anyway, back to the review at hand. My egg rings are only 2cm deep and I did follow the instructions to fill to just below the top, but they still overflowed so I would advise filling to 1.5cm full to allow rising room! On my Aga (DC3) simmering plate my timing were about 7 minutes on the first side and then 2-3 minutes on the tops. I didn't eat them all on Sunday, but they were good enough to eat all of them so I have frozen 6 in a freezer bag. I toasted a couple of the fresh ones on Monday morning and they were perf
