Mary Berry - Macaroni Cheese with Cherry Tomato Topping (543 or 362 Calories)

Macaroni Cheese with Cherry Tomato Topping (543 calories as a main course serves 4 recipe or 362 as a side serves 6 portion) Recipe Book: Mary Berry Cookery Course  Buy the Book Here Review: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 OMG! Fantastic! What more can I say? I have been searching for the perfect Mac n Cheese ever since I fell in love with the Booths supermarket frozen mac n cheese. I'd been trying a variety of recipes and none of them hit the mark.....until this one! Bet it tastes even better with some crispy streaky bacon chopped up and mixed in.....mmmmmm maybe next time!I used semi skimmed milk and Cathedral City Mature (I like strong cheese) cheddar Light to reduce some calories off the calorie count stated and it was perfect. Mary Berry you are amazing! You are now on a par with my love for Hairy Biker recipes. Jamie Oliver - Indian Style Chip Butty (470 Calories)

Indian Style Chip Butty (470 calories) Recipe Book: Jamie Oliver Veg (the latest book)  Review: 4 Stars! Finally! Back to better scores. I hate rating Jamie's recipes low as him and Nigella and Delia got me into cooking. This one was pretty easy to make and didn't take too much time. I did get a little confused as the photo of this looked like they were going to be smallish balls on those titchy rolls (which I didn't have). The recipe says it serves 4 and to make 4 balls so naturally my recipe should make 2 balls.... What actually happened... Didn't have any of those tiny little rolls (like in the photo) so used 2 small white finger rolls from Asda cut in to 2. Whilst making the chip filling in the pan the 2 balls I should be making looked massive! So I made them in to 4 instead, otherwise they wouldn't have fit on my now little buns! I used Asda Spicy Mango Chutney as that was what was in the cupboard. I couldn't locate a pomegranate so had to bu

Jamie Oliver - Allotment Cottage Pie (466 Calories)

Allotment Cottage Pie (466 calories) Recipe Book: Jamie Oliver Veg (the latest book)  Review: 2 Stars! Oh NO! Can't believe we have scored this one so low. We weren't keen on this at all. Maybe I did something wrong? It felt like there was something missing, don't ask me what....I don't know, I'm not a pro! It looked good, smelled good but just didn't hit the mark on taste. Maybe I'm too fussy? Annoying because I spent time on this recipe. Anyway, the mash potato bit was good - home grown potatoes of course. It's easy enough to make but time consuming so it's a day off recipe rather than a quick after work meal. Aga conversion: No conversion on this today as the Aga was off for my attempts at door liner upgrades...and that's another story! Will I make this again? Definitely Not. Jamie Oliver - Masala Stuffed Peppers (389 Calories)

Masala Stuffed Peppers (389 calories) Recipe Book: Jamie Oliver Veg (the latest book)  Review: 3.5 Stars! OK, so this one didn't score too highly. I'd had one of 'those' days and was rushing so by the time I sat down to eat, I didn't really feel like it. It wasn't difficult to make, but it wasn't a quick one either. It tasted good but definitely didn't blow me away, but as a meat eater who is sat eating stuffed peppers (a first!) it wasn't half bad. I had to skip on the fresh coriander as I'm one of those people who taste it differently to everyone else - it tastes like soap to me. I also only had little peppers so I used 3 (red, yellow and green) as they were so dinky and they stuffed nicely with all the filling. I mistakenly picked up salted pistachios but they were fine. Aga conversion: I used the roasting tray on the floor of the roasting oven to boil the potatoes then did the rest using the hot plates. Peppers were baked on t

Jamie Oliver - Sunshine Fusilli Pasta (388 Calories)

Sunshine Fusilli Pasta (388 calories) Recipe Book: Jamie Oliver Veg (the latest book)  Buy the book here  Buy the Kindle Version Review: 5 Stars! I can safely say that I was not expecting to score this recipe so highly. I am a hardened meat eater and don't particularly like or eat a whole lot of veg but I decided to really give it a go, so all this weeks recipes are coming out of this book. It was very quick to make, literally the 20 minutes as it states in the book. I made a half portion to serve 2. Mistakenly bought regular salted pistachios and it was fine. I blended the peppers, onions, garlic and cheese in my Kenwood Chef mini chopper attachment as the amount was pretty small and it fit just nicely. If I was making a serves 4 I might have to rethink this idea. Once it was blended, to be honest it looked like creamy yellowness and I didn't honestly like the look of it but hey ho, lets give it a chance eh? Was it good? It certainly was, I was also quite sur

Nigel Slater - Chicken Satay Sandwich

Chicken Satay Sandwich Recipe Book: Nigel Slater's Real Food  Buy the book here  Review: 5 stars for this one! Proper good! A real comfort food. It's not a healthy recipe, but by god it is good! If you like those chicken satay skewers with the peanut sauce that most good chinese takeaways do in the starter section of the menus, then you'll love this. I served mine on a baguette (you know those part baked ones that you can pick up in the supermarket, and I baked mine just before serving so they were nice and warm...Mmmmmm! I found it really easy and quick to make. Aga conversion: I mainly used the simmering plate for this recipe and then brought to the boil on the boiling plate. I baked the baguettes on the grid shelf on the bottom set of runner in the roasting oven for 8 minutes. Will I make this again? Yes definitely. # aga   # nigelslater   # nigelslater realfood   # chickensataysandwich

Nigel Slater - Toad with Browned Onion & Madeira Gravy

Toad with Browned Onions & Madeira Gravy Recipe Book: Nigel Slater's Real Food  Buy the book here  Review: 4 stars for this one! It was really good. Nice and tasty, easy enough to make and very filling. I served mine with homegrown garden peas and some mash (I have batched up portions of mash in my freezer from my homegrown potatoes to make it easy), but the mash was definitely not needed. I have included the gravy recipe too. This was just as good as the Hairy Dieters one. This takes slightly longer to make, so I made this before I started on the Toad recipe. I used my local Butchers Old English sausages (thin not thick - so I used 8 instead of 6) I also used Serrano ham as the supermarket didn't have any Proscuitto or thin sliced Pancetta.  For the gravy I used regular red wine, and I also used red onions as I had some in the fridge to use up. Forgot to take a photo of the entire finished Toad in the pan! I

Hairy Bikers - Meat & Potato Pie Saga

Meat & Potato Pie Recipe Book: Hairy Bikers Complete Mums Know Best  Buy the book Review: DISASTER EPIC READ! I'll give this a 3 Star but it's not a true review to be brutally honest.... The saga: I'd decided to do a bit of a bake fest and started with this pie as the silver surfers were going to be coming over for tea and they do like quite traditional recipes, so I thought this would be a great recipe seeing as it's from a lady not too far away in Ilkley in Yorkshire, just over the border from me. I mean, Yorkshire people make great Pork Pies...what could possibly go wrong? What went wrong was me plus a slight bit of ambiguity in this recipe. NOTE - Dishing up time for this pie is 5PM. Here it goes.... I get up early on Wednesday morning to get down to the butchers to get my meat and bone ingredients. I get home and read the recipe...Oh no! I was supposed to make the stock for this the day before!! Bloody hell! So what do I do? Yep you guessed it

Nigel Slater - Spiced Indian Chicken Baguette

Spiced Indian Chicken Baguette Recipe Book: Nigel Slater's Real Food  Buy the book here  Review: Full on 5 stars for this one! It was excellent. Super tasty, a real Saturday night easy to make  and quite filling sandwich for when you don't want a full meal or to order a takeaway... Reasonably quick and easy to make. I used Asda chicken wings so ended up using about 8 as there wasn't a whole load of meat on them.  Apologies for the not great photo, I had cut my baguette in half and started eating it when I realised I hadn't taken a photo! Aga conversion: I deviated slightly with this recipe and roasted my wings in the Roasting Oven on the bottom set of runners for around 30  minutes. Did the spice bit in a small frying pan. Toasted the baguette in the toasting rack on the boiling plate. Will I make this again? Yes definitely. # aga   # nigelslater   # nigelslater realfood   # Spicedindianchickenbaguette

Nigel Slater - Cauliflower Cheese & Mustard Soup

Cauliflower Cheese & Mustard Soup Recipe Book: Nigel Slater's Real Food  Buy the book here  Review: 1 star! What a disappointment! This recipe did not taste as good as it looked. It was bland and boring. Far too creamy. Neither of us liked it at all. I even attempted a rescue attempt by dissolving a Knorr Vegetable stock pot into it to no avail. Aga conversion: Mainly used the hotplates for this recipe. Will I make this again? Absolutely not. # aga   # nigelslater   # nigelslater realfood   # cauliflowercheeseandmustardsoup

Gino D'Acampo - Fettuccine all' Amatriciana

Fettuccine (Tagliolini) alla Amatriciana Recipe Book: Gino D'Acampo Healthy Italian for Less  Buy the book here   Buy the Kindle Version Review: 5 Stars! I have made this recipe so many times.  Wow! This was excellent. Very easy to make and super tasty. The pancetta gave this dish an extra level to it and the sauce was nice and thick and clung to the homemade chilli tagliolini (recipe and review to follow at a later date) really well. Note: I took the photo with a small sprinkling of the pecorino as otherwise you wouldn’t be able to see the sauce! Aga conversion: boil pasta in the roasting oven and make the sauce on the simmering plate. Will I make this again? Absolutely! Loved this recipe. # aga   # ginodacampo   # pastamonday   # healthyitalianforless   # pastawithcherrytomatosaucepancettaandpecorinoromano

Nigel Slater - Grilled Mustard & Herb Chicken

Grilled Mustard & Herb Chicken Recipe Book: Nigel Slater's Real Food  Buy the book here  Review: Full on 5 stars for this one! It was excellent. Super tasty, skin was crispy and the meat was moist, pure deliciousness. Quick to make and prep, although you do need to either marinade overnight in the fridge the night before or do it a couple of hours in advance. I did mine this morning after realising that it needed doing. I had already asked my butcher to remove the bones from the thighs so it made it a lot quicker. Basically chuck it all in a bowl, quick mix, cover and leave. I cooked mine 4 mins each side as per recipe but they needed another 2 mins a side longer as my thighs were fat. LOL. My husband was supposed to be having this for tea with me, so me being me, trying to be like super mega efficient (still in my outdoor gardening gear, I'll have you know), I went on iPhone Find Friends app as he had text me he was on the way home. So I looked and saw he w
